Jack the Giant Slayer.

I will start this off by saying that i am in love with fairy tales of any kind and one that i have always loved was jack and the bean stock. this movie is wonderful because it shows the 'original' story of Jack and his reasons for going up the bean stock. they had a lot of changes from the original childhood tale that made me upset at the beginning. Including that he sells a horse instead of a cow and sells it to an Munk rather than a poor old man and whether or not his parents were alive and the fact that there was a princess in this story, and so on. but later in the movie they have many voice overs telling the story from generation to generation and you hear people correcting each other and chaining some factors of the story so that it is the tale we hear today. I found this so interesting because it is a take on how information gets passed on through generations and how all the history that we think we know today could just be the interpretation of those who passed along the information.

the visual designer of this movie deserves a major pat on the back for the beautiful job done on the giants. no two giants looked alike and they all had constant moving facial expressions and movements. also the interactions between the giants and the humans were so well done that i completely believe it to be true during the movie.

this is a very good family fairy tale with a bit of a twist.

and i mean none of us got enough of Nicholas Hoult in warm bodies as R and seeing him as Jack is just as exciting!

OZ: The Great and Powerful

This movie was definitely made to be a family movie rather than one for young adults because it kept up the cheesy factor with minimalistic violence and fear.

not to say that is wasn't a good movie because i thoroughly enjoyed it but i definitely would have enjoyed it to be a lot darker.

also, one issue that i had with this movie is that i am in a deep and passionate love with the book and musical Wicked and when you go to this film you have to completely disregard everything in wicked and focus solely on the things you know from the Wizard of Oz.

this movie is set up exactly like the Wizard of Oz with a black and white Kansas, a tornado that takes our protagonist away, and then a full coloured wondrous land of OZ.

The reason why i liked wicked so much is that it explains everything that happens ing the wizard of OZ, from why the tin man is heartless, the scarecrow brainless, and the lion cowardly, to the significance of the ruby red slippers and why they are magical. in oz great and powerful you get few connections to the wizard of OZ, such as the air balloon, the cowardly lion, and why the wicked witch of the west is green.

this is an unfair review due to my deep devotion to wicked and even with that devotion i still was in love with this movie due to its suburb cast that includes James Franco, Michelle Williams, and Mila Kunis, and its beautiful cinematography full of beautiful colours and brilliant editing and very impressive editing specifically on all the aminations, including a monkey, the flying monkeys, a china doll, and even Mila Kunis transformed face.

21 & Over

Quick Review because i have a mid term tomorrow but all i have to say is holy sweet baby jesus of beauty i love skylark astin.

Don't know who I'm talking about. well then sit down. watch pitch perfect. enjoy watching the beauty of Jesse singing 'it feels like the first time' and now you know where i am coming from.

there is really nothing better than a movie that begins with Skylar Astin and Miles Teller walking around with nothing but a tube sock on their penises. Yeah.

basically i would classify this movie as the younger version of the hangover and i think it is a must see comedy

(and PS for any boys that aren't excited about two naked boys walking around there is also a lot of boobs and even some lesbian latina action)

Movie 43

With a 5% rating on rotten tomatoes I was thoroughly impressed with his Sketch Comedy feature.

First of you have to love the cast! This all star cast includes Dennis Quaid, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Elizabeth Banks, Emma Stone, Richard Gere, Seth MacFarlane, Live Schreiber, Naomi Watts, Anna Farris, Chris Platt, Kate Bosworth, Jack McBrayer, Justin Long, Jason Sudeikis, Uma Therman, Kristen Bell, Leslie Bibb, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Grace Moretz, Gerard Butler, Sean William Scott, Johnny Knoxville, Josh Duhamel, Terrence Howard, and even (briefly) Snooki.

Rather than a synopsis of the movie (since it is about 15 mini movies in one) i will just tell you all why i believe this movie deserves more than a 5% rating.

This movie was made to be a Sketch Comedy full of cheap jokes and unbelievable circumstances. Since the movie begins with a man (Dennis Quaid) who is not an acclaimed writer of any sorts is trying to pitch a movie to a studio in Hollywood. all of the short sketches within the movie are supposed to be his 'bad' ideas and the reason that they needed an all star cast in this is because while pitching the movie he would begin to talk about the scene and to describe his characters he would say, for instance, 'Think Hugh Jackman', because when pitching a movie you use all star names that everyone will know and then be aware of what 'character type' you are looking for. So, different from the belief on many Rotten Tomato Reviews, i believe that they in fact DID NOT waste an all star cast and actually used them in a different way than anyone else would have before them.

I sincerely suggest seeing this movie, and if not in theatres rent it on Video on Demand or anything because it is a movie with good comedic moments and some very interesting choices.

Warm Bodies

Romeo, Romeo, Where for art thou romeo? or in this case where for art thou R. The answer to that is that R is in an abandoned airport with his other zombie companions (or 'corpses').

This very modernized twist on the classical love tale of Romeo and Juliet is hilarious, romantic, and full of flesh eating Zombies.

Adorably quirky, Nicholas Hoult, takes the lead as R, a young corpse who is a bit odd and seems to think more than most of the other zombies. On a day when R and his pack of Zombies (including his best friend Marcus[Rob Corddry]) go into the city looking for food they stumble upon a group of survivors. This is where R and Julie (played by Teresa Palmer) meet, and R captures Juliet and takes care of her in his airplane home. R and Julie begin to grow fond of each other and R starts to show human like traits. Julie wants to take R to see her father, the leader of the army of survivors (played by John Malkovich), to prove to him that R is recovering from his virus.

Does her dad believe him? or is he logical in thinking that a Corpse can never truly change?
You'll have to watch to find out.

This movie is the perfect date night movie to go to on Valentine's Day. It has the Romantic-Comedy side for the girl and the flesh-eating zombies and battle scenes for the boy.

IDENTITY THIEF

Identity Thief is a film starring Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman who play Diana and Sandy Patterson (respectively). Sandy Peterson finds himself in Florida when his identity is stolen by the 5'0'' tall master thief, Diana. He has been given one week to capture her and bring her back to Colorado in order to save not only his identity, but his job as well. The two of them embark on a hilarious adventure of ups and down and begin to grow closer when they realize Sandy isn't the only one after Diana.

McCarthy is one of the most comically talented actresses of our time and her skills are definitely shown throughout this film. Bateman also shows more of his comedic side and keeps the audience glued to the screen not only with his humour, but with his drop dead gorgeous good looks as well (i mean... look at those green eyes!)

Identity Thief is an outstanding Comedic Adventure full of fun, laughter, possible tears, and minimal cruelty so you could bring your kids along for the ride.

The Hobbit- An Unexpected Journey

So i will be the first to admit that i am not the biggest LOTR fan and i have not (although now i think i might) read the hobbit so i guess some may consider my opinions on the movie invalid.

honestly all i was looking forward to in this movie was gollem/ Smegle because he is my favourite character by far and anticipating his arrival is really what got me through this movie.

SLIGHT SPOILER ALLERT

this movie was a part 1 and i believe that the second half will be much more enjoyable but i just felt like the movie was moving so slowly and it was quite and equivalent to harry potter and the deathly hallows part 1 where it was mainly dry and a lot of back story but it had to be done to make the second part that much more fantastic.

i am very excited for the second part to be released and i recommend that this movie is watched before you watch the second part or at least read the book.
